Hull & East Yorkshire PFC Reveal New Club Logo

Hull & East Yorkshire Powerchair Football Club are excited to reveal our new club logo.

The club has ensured to retain and modernise two key visual elements; Eel and powerchair as well as introducing and incorporating Electric Eels, the club’s nickname.

Our Journey

The club was formed in 2012 formerly, known as East Riding Electric Eels. Our branding originally was a hand drawn logo and suited us when we were going through the stages of starting the club. In 2016, we made the logo look more professional looking and added a badge look to it with a circle bordering it. Then we renamed the club Hull & East Yorkshire Powerchair Football Club.

Within, our logo journey we’ve always kept the Eel, wheelchair and football as our three key visual elements.

The Design Process

The process was very thorough and long but, this was to ensure our new branding was the right one that we felt represents us. Whilst, everyone liked our previous club logo, we felt it desperately needed a refresh as in a digital world; it was no longer fit for purpose.

We approached Nighthawk Studio who have a vast portfolio of their branding work for professional sport clubs and companies of all sizes within the UK.  Will at Nighthawk Studio met with members of the club to gain insight into our brief, club vision and the history of the club, learn more about powerchair football.

Following this, Will presented to the club committee two design options where it was chosen our preferred option with some changes.

So, what was our final choice and did Will do? We choose a design that focussed on our brief and inspiration we had given Will. Also, followed suit of the traditional American sports brands. What did we love, well the illustrated design incorporates every aspect of the sport, powerchair football. A design that made the Eel more impactful.

During the consultation period, we had a good mix of views, some who wanted a complete rebrand pointing down the American Sports brands route and some who wanted to be minimalistic.

However, we were able to put a brief together with keywords being modern, incorporating motion as well as a fresh, dynamic and professional look.

We wanted the Eel to be a key focus shifting to it looking to be in motion making it a key focus, importantly, giving an identity of a powerchair football club.

Also, modernising the wheelchair to the same powerchair used within the sport with a bumper.

Finally, incorporating our club nick name was crucial. When we now look at the new club logo it’s nailed exactly what we wanted and looks modern and attractive from a digital aspect, commercially and sports view.

Marketing & Communications Officer, at Hull & East Yorkshire PFC, Kai Gill said:

“ We are thrilled to now reveal our new club logo, which marks an exciting chapter in the history of Hull & East Yorkshire PFC. It was a very extensive project but, desperately needed, the conversation around modernising our logo began when we were working on new club merchandise, we realised that on designs our previous logo was perhaps lacking the modernised route we’ve gone with our new kit and merchandise. We know what this clubs means to people and we feel we’ve got the perfect balance that is authentic to ourselves. We absolutely love our new club logo and how it represents us as well as who we represent. We are really excited for the future and can’t wait to unveil our new training wear and match wear in the coming days. “

Will Kirk at Owner of Nighthawk Studio: “ This project was one that I loved every part of. It is a project that allowed a lot of creative fun, freedom, and one that I am proud to have helped with in shaping the next stage of the club's history. The thought process that had already gone into the direction meant both myself and the committee were on the same page immediately, and understood exactly what was needed. A modern futureproof rebrand, that was representative of the personality its players and members brought to every match. I hope this logo does just that for everyone there.”
